Tajikistan Tour from Uzbekistan: Panjakent, Fann Mountains & Dushanbe

We will leave Samarkand in the morning and head towards the Uzbek-Tajik border. After crossing into Tajikistan, we will continue directly towards the Fann Mountains and the spectacular Seven Lakes.

The road gradually takes us from the fertile Zarafshan Valley into the mountains, passing traditional villages, fields and increasingly dramatic mountain scenery.

The Seven Lakes lie one above another in a narrow mountain valley, each with its own colour and character.

 

Depending on the sunlight and weather, the water can appear turquoise, deep blue, emerald green or even violet. We will stop at several of the lakes and, if conditions allow, continue towards the higher ones.

There will be time to enjoy the mountain scenery, take photographs and walk along the shores of the lakes before continuing towards Panjakent.

In the late afternoon, we will visit the ruins of ancient Panjakent.

This ancient Sogdian city was once an important centre of trade, crafts and culture along the Silk Road. The archaeological site preserves the remains of houses, temples, streets and other buildings, giving us a fascinating glimpse into the life of Sogdiana more than a thousand years ago.

The late afternoon is a particularly beautiful time to visit the site. As the sun begins to descend, the warm light falls across the ancient walls and ruins, creating a completely different atmosphere from a midday visit. We will take our time to explore the site and enjoy the changing light over the remains of this once-flourishing city.

 

 

After breakfast, we will leave Panjakent and begin our journey towards Dushanbe.

This is one of the most scenic sections of the trip. The road winds through mountain valleys and over high passes, with the landscape changing constantly as we descend towards the Hissar Valley.

Along the way, we will have opportunities to stop at viewpoints and small settlements, meet local people and enjoy the scenery.

 

This is not simply a transfer from one city to another - the road through Tajikistan is an important part of the journey.

By the afternoon, we will arrive in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.

Unlike Panjakent, with its ancient Sogdian heritage and mountain atmosphere, Dushanbe is a modern Central Asian capital with wide tree-lined avenues, parks, monumental architecture and an increasingly cosmopolitan character.

 

We will explore the central part of the city, including Rudaki Avenue and Rudaki Park, see the monument to Ismail Somoni and some of the city's most impressive modern buildings and squares.

In the evening, there will be time to walk around the city, enjoy a traditional Tajik dinner and experience Dushanbe after sunset, when its parks, fountains and broad avenues take on a completely different atmosphere.

 

     

We will stay overnight in Dushanbe.
