Tour duration: two days or more
I am often asked to show the real, non-touristic Uzbekistan. People write that they want to avoid the usual routes and see what is hidden from the eyes of most visitors. However, during our correspondence it almost always turns out that even those who ask for “off-the-beaten-path places” are actually aiming to visit Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva — cities that are impossible to imagine without a tourist atmosphere.
Yes, even in these popular cities I can show lesser-known corners, but it is still impossible to completely avoid encounters with other travelers there. So what if we go further — to remote regions where you can witness authentic everyday life and experience a completely different atmosphere?
For example, the villages of Sentob, Ashraf, and Gelon have long welcomed tourists and offer comfortable conditions for visitors. However, for my travelers I reserve one special place — a picturesque mountain village that is not mentioned in guidebooks. Here you will not meet foreign tourists, and the narrow streets and distinctive houses resemble scenes from films about mountain villages in Afghanistan.
Of course, such an experience is not for everyone. There is no hot water or modern conveniences, no paved roads, cafés, or restaurants. But there are travelers who are searching precisely for this kind of raw, unfiltered authenticity.
If you are among those who seek deep cultural immersion in a mountain region; if you are ready to drink spring water, hike in the mountains and refresh yourself in cool streams, gather berries and medicinal herbs, taste fruit free of chemicals, eat food cooked over an open fire, drink fresh milk, and discover countless small wonders — then I invite you on a journey filled with genuine, unforgettable emotions.
By the way, mountain walks on donkeys and horseback rides will naturally complement all of the above.
Excursions to the mountain village are available year-round. Please note that from October to the end of May, swimming in mountain streams is suitable only for the most resilient travelers, ready to experience the invigorating chill of icy water.
If you choose to travel between November and mid-March, you will have a unique opportunity to witness one of the most spectacular traditional sports - Kupkari (buzkashi). This dynamic competition features horsemen demonstrating skill, endurance, and agility as they compete for the trophy — a goat carcass.
This journey will reward you with vivid impressions, genuine emotions, and a deep sense of connection with the spirit of the mountains.
This tour is offered as an extension to a main itinerary that includes Samarkand and other cities of Uzbekistan. The price is discussed separately.
